Max Wittges 2American bass-baritone, has made an international reputation for his powerful and moving  interpretations of many of the Richard Wagner Helden-bariton roles, most notably Wotan/Wanderer in Der Ring des Niebilungen and Amfortas in Parsifal. After completeing his studies with Boris Goldovsky at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia Max Wittges made his debut with the New York City Opera as the Bonze in Madama Butterfly (Puccini) and Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) he also sang the roles of Monterone (Rigoletto) and Zuniga in Carmen (Bizet).  His large repertoire include also Flying Dutchman (Der Fliegender Holländer)Amfortas (Parsifal), Musiklehrer  (Ariadne auf Naxos), Scarpia  (Tosca) and Don Fernando (Fidelio,)Donner, Gunther as well as Wotan/Der Wanderer (Der Ring des Niebelungen), Ratcliffe  (Billy Budd)and Don Fernando (Fidelio) and Sprecher in (Zauberflöte). In the 1999 - 2000  season Mr. debuted in the role of Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde. Upcoming engagements for Mr. Wittges include performances as Wotan/Wanderer in a  complete Wagner Ring Cycle at the Staatstheater Braunschweig in November-December 2001.
