MARIANNA
TARASOVA,
mezzosoprano
Born in St.Petersburg
Marianna Tarasova graduated from the local conservatory and took Master
classes with Galina Vishnevskaia. She won many prizes in international
competitions, including first prizes in the International Dvorak
Competition in Karlsbad (1990), the Maria Caniglia Competition in Italy
(1992) and the ARD competition in Munich (1993).
In 1993 Valery Gergiev invited
her to join the Mariinsky Theatre. She has toured extensively with the
company performing leading roles, particularly Carmen, Preziozilla,
Amneris, Konchakovna (Prince Igor) and Liubov (Mazeppa).
Marianna Tarasova has
collaborated with such conductors as James Levine, Claudio Abbado, Mariss
Janssons, Yuri Temirkanov, Antonio Pappano, Vladimir Jurowsky, James Conlon,
Simone Young, Semen Bytchkov, Fabio Luisi and such directors as Elijah
Moshinsky and Francesca Zambello.
She has appeared at the
Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Covent Garden, Salzburg Festival,
La Scala, Teatro Comunale in Florence, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro
Lirico in Cagliari, Netherlands Opera, Monte-Carlo Opera, Graz Opera.
A busy concert singer and
recitalist, Marianna Tarasova has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic
Orchestra under Abbado in Berlin, Salzburg, Paris and in Japan, with London
Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, the Russian National Orchestra, the St.
Petersburg Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic and San-Francisco Symphony.
Recordings are available on
Philips Classics (Rimski Korsakov’s “Sadko” with Kirov Opera),
excerpts from Mussorgsgy’s
Khovanshchina with the Berlin Philharmonic and Claudio Abbado on Sony
Classics, as well as Shostakovich's complete compositions for mezzo-soprano
with BBC.
Recent and upcoming
performances include Boris Godunov in Mannheim, Rusalka at the
Israel Opera, Aida in Tallinn, the opening of the new festival
“Baltic Seasons” with the St Petersburg Philharmonic, Khovanschina at
the Finnish National Opera, Cavalleria Rusticana at the Welsh
National Opera and Samson et Dalila at the Israel Opera.
