After
obtaining the Diploma at Music High School and graduating at Hang-Yang
University in Seoul in 1996 Sin Hwang won the two national competitions.
Very soon she made her opera debut in the role of Susanna in Le
nozze di Figaro. Subsequently she moved to Italy where she joined the
G.Verdi Conservatory of Milan in the class of Maestra Rita Orlandi
Malaspina and obtained the Diploma with full marks in 1999.
During last years Ms. Hwong has won prizes and awards
in many international singing competitions among them Viotti International
Competition, Geneva International Competition, Singing Competition at Arles
(France), International Singing Competition Julian Gayarre in Pamplona
(Spain), Queen Sonja International Competition (Norway), International
Singing Competition in Marseille and last the International Competition "Spiros
Argiris" at Sarzana (Italy). She also won an audition to participate to
CNIPAL (Centre National d‘Insertion Professionnelle d‘Art Lyrique) in
Marseille and in 2005 she was given the 1st prize at the
International Canadian Competition "Jeunesses Musicales" of Montreal (Canada)
In the jury distinguished members Carlo Bergonzi, Eduardo del Campo, Dame
Gwyneth Jones, Tom Krause and Shirley Verrett.
Since 1999 Ms. Hwang is based in Geneva and has worked
all over Europe: She sang Barbarina at the Grand Theatre of Geneva,
Gilda in Bergamo and Valduggia, the 9th Symphony of Beethoven at the
Chiabrera Theater of Savona under the batton of Maestro Giuseppe Garbarino
and Mimi in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Dortmund. In fall 2003 she
sang Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte at l’Opéra de Marseille and in
2004-05 season she sang Norina (Don Pasquale) at the Theatre of
Pescia and a Mess of Haydn at the Theatre of Besançon. In November 2005 she
interpretated the role Dame
at “Dido and Enea” by Purcell at Opera of Marseille.
Her future engagements in the season 2006-07 include
Queen of the Night (“Die Zauberflöte") at ”Les Opéras en Plein Air” in
Akouna, France and Vancouver Opera, Canada. She will also sing the Stabat
Mater” by G.Rossini with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her opera repertoire also includes roles such as
Amina (Sonnambula), Elvira (Puritani), Lucia (Lucia di
Lammermoore), Adina (Elisir d’amore), Rosina (Barbiere di
Siviglia), Liu (Turandot), Violetta (La Traviata), Amelia
(Simon Boccanegra), Nannetta (Falstaff), Blonde, Konstanze
(Entführung aus dem Serail), Donna Elvira, Zerlina (Don
Giovanni), Pamina, Annie (Rake’s Progress), Zerbinetta
(Ariadne auf Naxos), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Manon
(Manon by Massenet) and Juliette (Roméo et Juliette by Gounod).
In addition to her opera roles she has performed among others Carmina
Burana of Carl Orff, Magnificat of John Rutter at Geneva and at Bellfort
(France), Les sept Dernies pardes at the Victoria Hall of Geneva. She also
sang in a recital at the Grand Theatre of Geneva for the Fete de la Musique,
the Mass in C minor by Mozart and Exultate Jubilate in Arles and Grenoble.
